Maple Leaf Cookies

These glazed maple leaf cookies are fun to make with the kids, but the taste of maple is loved by adults, too.

(Be sure to note refrigeration time of at least two hours for dough.)

Ingredients:

1 cup butter or margarine
2/3 cup sugar
1/2 cup pure maple syrup
1/3 cup milk
3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon cream of tartar
1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
additional syrup for glazing

In medium saucepan combine butter, sugar, and the syrup. Heat to boiling. Remove from heat; cool to room temperature. Blend in milk.

In mixing bowl stir together flour, cream of tartar and ginger. Stir in syrup mixture. Divide dough in halves; wrap and chill 2 hours or overnight.

On lightly floured surface roll half the dough at a time about 1/4 inch thick. Cut the dough with a maple-leaf-shaped cookie cutter. Place on ungreased cookie sheet.

Bake in 375 degree oven for 8 to 10 minutes or until golden brown. Remove to wire rack. Immediately brush cookies with additional syrup.

Makes 3 1/2 dozen cookies.
